Registration Renewal Requirements

• Vehicle must be currently insured with a company that is registered with the Kentucky office of insurance
to be eligible to use this website.
• If you have obtained insurance within the last 45 days your information may not be in our database. This
could prohibit you from renewing your vehicle from this site. Please visit your County Clerk and provide
proof of insurance at that time
• If the Registration Renewal Request is submitted before 12:00 midnight EST, your local county clerk will
receive the request the next business day for processing.
• If your information appearing on the screens is incorrect, click "Cancel" and contact your County Clerk.
• The vehicle(s) renewed must have unexpired registration(s).
• The owner of the vehicle(s) cannot have overdue property taxes on any other vehicles.
• The address on the registration renewal notice must be your current address. (Registration materials
will be mailed to this address.) If your current address does not match your registration renewal notice
please contact your County Clerk.
• At this time, all standard passenger "Unbridled Spirit" plates can be renewed online.
* It is our goal to make it possible for ALL PASSENGER plates to be renewable online *
• Leased vehicles cannot be renewed online.
• A convenience fee of $5.00 will be charged for each vehicle being renewed.

Must have valid insurance at the time the county clerk completes the renewal.
Please be aware that could take up to 72 hours.
If you do not meet all the above criteria you can not request a renewal online.
How to Renew Vehicles and Boats

Motor vehicle license plates are renewed in the vehicle owner's birth month, except for personalized and
some special plates. To renew, you must have a registration certificate and a current Kentucky
insurance card if your insurance cannot be verified by computer. Verification depends on your
company's compliance with House Bill 29.
We accept the following forms of payment:
Cash, In-State Check, Money Order, MasterCard, Debit Card and Discover.
Renew by Mail:
Avoid the lines and use our Mail-In Renewal Service. A $2.00 fee is added to cover
postage and handling. Send registration certificate, current KY insurance card, and
payment (plus a $2.00 mail-in fee) to:

You will receive your completed renewal by mail in 3 - 5 business days.
Drive up Drop Boxes:
Drive up to our drop box at the Hopkins County Clerk's Office (24 Union St.,
Madisonville, KY.). Please drop your registration certificate, current KY insurance
card, and payment (plus a $2.00 mail-in fee) in a sealed envelope into the drop box.
You will receive your completed renewal by mail in 5 - 7 business days.
Motor Boat Renewals:
All motor boat registrations and transfers are handled by the County Clerk's Office.
Kentucky law requires all boats having motors to be registered if operated on public
waters. To register a boat you must have your registration certificate. Boat renewals
and property tax payments may be processed in the same manner that you renew a
motor vehicle (see above) except by the internet.
